Fast Food: My Love Is True

“Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!”
I love Big Macs! When McDonald’s runs their two for one specials, I’m the first in line. The Wendy’s Double with cheese also pleases my taste buds. Burger King’s Double Meat Whopper has a unique taste as it soaks up the juice of the mayonnaises and tomato slices and brings euphoria to the senses. Five Guys fries great burgers right in front of you so there’s no question about freshness or microwave re-heating. Culver’s (a Midwest chain) offers a melt in your mouth Pork Tenderloin sandwich reminiscent of those cooked in the 60’s. Sonic’s recent revival of hot dog delicacies makes chili dogs a treat once again. Hardee’s offers the “Big Burgers” and the Swiss ‘N Mushrooms needs no add-ons. Devour the sandwich and lick up the mushroom gravy afterwards, it’s too good to toss in the trash! Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Extra Crispy offerings makes the phrase “It tastes like chicken” an understatement! Add fries and drink to these offerings and it’s a complete meal. Or, is it?
In 2004, a movie entitled, “Super Size Me” was released. The documentary provided a 30 day look at an experiment involving eating nothing but McDonald’s menu offerings. By the end of thirty days, a substantial weight gain, increased cholesterol and sugar levels and a general feeling of depression were present, .
Most of us ignored the message presented us by that film. So much so, we are still the most obese nation in the world. Our fast food addiction is one of the major reasons!

Keep Eating And Be Like Me!

In 2007, I decided to do something about my weight. It had blossomed to 260 pounds, which wouldn’t be bad if I was a muscular 6’6”. However, at just under 6’, you couldn’t tell if I was standing or sitting. I was just one blob of fat in the middle of a room.
So, I devised a diet that would work for me. I called it, “The Mind Over Matter” diet. The philosophy was we all eat too much. As youngsters, our parents conditioned us to eat everything on our plates, whether we were hungry or not. With portion size increasing, both at home and at restaurants, we still follow these instructions.
What followed was a strict regiment of asking myself if I was still hungry before putting every bite in my mouth. When I couldn’t honestly answer “Yes” to the question, I’d put down my fork and push the plate away.
After four months, I had lost 60 pounds of unattractive fat, and my head was still attached to my body! I felt better, could move better, and had more energy. And, I believed I had made myself much healthier.
Instead, as some doctors will agree, losing that amount of weight that quickly can cause problems. I had disposed of a lot of my visible fat. But, in doing so, had moved some into my blood vessels and arteries. As a result, blood platelets had collected against a fat module and formed a clot. This had shifted and found its way to a rear artery of the heart, where it lodged itself., creating 100% blockage of that artery.
Immediately, I experienced the impact of being punched in the back (right between my shoulder blades). Then, another hit, and still another. Intensity too great for a back spasm, yet, I couldn’t imagine it being anything else!
They continued, one after another, taking me off my feet to my knees. All of my strength deserting me, I first dropped my forehead to the carpet for support, followed soon by a complete surrender as I lay on my side. Noticing my right arm had lost all feeling , it suddenly came to me that I was experiencing a dreaded heart attack.
I fought the agony and crawled slowly to the bathroom. Articles viewed in the past had stated aspirin could save a person in my desperate situation. This was my quest, my goal. However, upon arriving and opening the drawer, I found a new battle awaiting me. Instantly, I tackled the problem of opening the child proof bottle top with only one operational hand. This was accomplished by wedging the bottle between my body and right arm and using my body weight to hold it tight as my left hand fumbled with the lid.
I can’t tell you how long it took as time was moving at a sloth‘s pace. In and out of consciousness, I recall coming to on the floor with aspirin scattered on the bath mat beside me. I frantically grabbed at them and swallowed two or three before succumbing to the pain and entering the darkness.
It was my wife that came to my rescue. Entering the house after working all day, she found the bathroom door shut. With no knowledge of what had transpired, she had waited ten minutes before coming to the door and asking if I was alright. Getting no answer, she opened the door to find me sprawled on the floor.
I remember the ambulance attendant saying, “It’s kind of tight in here, you’re going to have to help me get you up.” (Yeah, like I had any ability to move any part of my body.) I hadn’t been so helpless since receiving a bite by a Cape Cobra while in South Africa many years before. It’s neurotoxins had paralyzed my bodily functions and I had technically died enroute to the hospital. (Miraculously awakening three days later on life support.)
The doors to the ambulance were slammed shut and a mask slipped over the bottom half of my face. The attendant stuck an IV in a vein on top of my left hand. However, as he turned away to grab a clipboard, his knee hit the needle and ripped it away. What seemed minutes later, he put down the clipboard, jabbed the IV into my right hand and bandaged the injury.
Next, came his personal information questions. I answered immediately, but he shouted to the driver,
“I’m getting no response!”
I answered again. Seeming to ignore this, he repeated the questions. Thinking that the mask could be muffling my volume, I answered even louder.
“Still no response” was shouted again!
“What a dumb ass” came quickly to mind! I raised my good arm, pushed the mask away and said, “I’ve answered your damn questions three times already! Get the crap out of your ears!”
“I’m getting a response” was quickly shouted to the driver. “Now put that mask back on. There’s pure oxygen coming through it!”
“There’s nothing coming through it! You‘re trying to kill me, you jerk!”
He turned, reached up, and flipped a switch on a chrome panel. I felt the coolness of the air as it began to flow against my face. Then, a return to darkness
I regained consciousness twice more. A doctor was asking for my verbal permission to allow my wife to sign papers. I remember responding, “Regretably, yes!”, automatically trying to be funny. Next, a doctor was saying, “We now have you hooked up to our monitoring equipment. We’ll be able to see what’s ….“ (blah, blah, blah, Charlie Brown’s parents). I stopped listening to him when, in the background, a tone held steady and a nurse stated, “He’s gone!” Then, darkness.
I awoke seven hours later to my wife’s face, as well as, my oldest daughter’s and son-in-law’s, staring down upon me. Their expressions were filled with worry and concern.
“What, are you sorry I’m not dead? Shouldn’t you guys be smiling?” I whispered with all my strength in an attempt to again be funny. They didn’t smile. I was unaware that I had been technically dead for the second time in my life. All I knew was I was back and only wanted to see smiles.
For days, I was under morphine injections. At my request, my wife brought in my I-Pod so I could take advantage of the drug’s positive side and listen to some old Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix selections. (“Once a rocker….”)
Lacking the strength of a newborn, I also had plenty of time to analyze. “What had caused this to happen?” and “What could I do to prevent a repeat event?” were questions contemplated.
Upon exiting my hospital stay, I made a decision to watch what I ate. Unfortunately, it lasted as long as most New Year’s resolutions.
Taking a position as a District Manager, I found myself staying in hotels at least four nights a week. This allowed for a lifestyle of no breakfast, a quick burger for lunch and overeating at night. This became the norm. Slowly but surely my weight returned.
I started feeling exhausted in the middle of the day. Double vision and a ringing in my ears became constant companions. I found myself going into blank stares at a computer screen as passwords took time to recollect.
Looking back, the job and the little free time it allowed had led me to acquire very poor eating habits. I knew better, but staying in some stores until closing left only fast food offerings to partake afterwards. Thus, the weight had returned and brought a new ailment to deal with.
Type 2 Diabetes was the diagnosis. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been as my daily readings varied from 125-154, but it was still present. A pill a day was prescribed to get it under control.

My Vow To Fast Food

To the fast food industry:
“I love your burgers, your fries, and everything else! My brain worships the tastes you provide! But I‘ve learned my lesson!
But my body has to say “NO” to renewing our relationship. You’ve hurt me twice before and I’d be a fool to let it happen again. I’m losing weight slowly, the right way this time. Exercise, moderation, and quality versus quantity are the answers.
Our divorce is final. I can’t return!”

A Final Note

My story is told. I recognize my faults and don’t shift blame. I’m just hoping that someone will listen and not make the same mistakes.
Here’s to your future and mine!

Love's Beat, Music Sweet (Poem)

The Beatles would sing "I Want To Hold Your Hand"
The Guess Who sang "Share the Land"
Grand Funk Railroad played "We're An American Band"
Neil Young strummed away "Cowgirl In The Sand."
Together no roads planned

Buffalo Springfield loved the "Bluebird"
Moody Blues asked "Have You Heard"
War wanted to "Deliver The Word"
Roger Miller stated "You Can't Roller Skate In A Buffalo Herd"
My love your heart spurred

Carole King harped "You're So Far Away"

Peter Frampton asked you to "Show Me The Way"
The Buckinghams said "It's A Beautiful Day"
Leo Sayer whined "More Than I Can Say"
Beautiful always you stay

BTO always "Let It Ride"
Kansas drove "On The Other Side"
Poco had "Nothin' To Hide"
Paper Lace popped "The Night Chicago Died"
Your hand never was denied
ELO swung with "Boy Blue"
Pablo Cruise wondered "Whatcha Gonna Do"
The Eagles asked "Is It True"
James Taylor traveled to "Her Town Too"
No one ever needed but you

Linda Ronstadt moaned it "Hurt So Bad"
Traffic begged "Don't Be Sad"
ZZ Top had a "Groovy Little Hippie Pad"
Ozzy Osbourne gave us "That I Never Had"
True love real, never a fad

The times of our life overflow
With notes of love and horns that blow
Guitars strum the heart's desire
Drums that pound with blazing fire

We take a tour to music past
Continue play, our love will last
When it stops the time is done
The sky and us will join as one

But until that time the rhythm flows
Part of our life, the music shows
That you and I can't stop the beat
Enjoying love and music sweet

Pets Are Human Too!

Pets Are Human Too!

Life's Lessons

Have you ever had an animal that touched your heart? Most of us had. The sad thing is that most of our pets have life spans much shorter than us. To lose a loved pet is one of the most difficult things one can endure. But, the sadness of the loss can be somewhat overcome by the joy found in acquiring a new one. They are never a replacement, for each are their own in personality and habit. And, there are times, they can each teach us valuable lessons.

Jiminy Cricket & Peanut Butter
My father looked at dogs as necessary critters to bark when someone was coming up the driveway. He wasn’t in to special breed dogs. Thought they were just a waste of money! So, growing up, the Heinz 57 variety were my companions.
Jiminy Cricket was my first. I remember rolling in the grass and wrestling with him as he’d lick my face and playfully nip at my hair. All he wanted was attention and something to eat in return. I can’t tell you the hours spent with this best friend of mine as he would listen intently to all my secrets and fears. He was a true friend!
Jiminy had a habit of leaving the yard and chasing the chickens that my neighbor down the road raised. One day, the neighbor came over with a story that still makes me wonder. He said that there’d been a dog caught killing his chickens. He’d taken his gun and shot the attacker. He added that he didn’t realize it was our dog until after the deed was done.
I felt as though my world had ended. My best friend was gone. I looked at his empty doghouse in the yard and burst into tears. The rest of that day was spent at the doghouse, remembering the good times we’d had, and telling his spirit how sorry I was and how much I missed him. It was my first dealing with death.
Peanut Butter was his replacement. I was having a hard time getting over Jiminy’s death, so my dad walked in with a light tan and brown splotched puppy about a week later. I gave my love to that dog and quickly grew to cherish his curiosity and energy. He had a bad habit of which he couldn’t be broken…he chased cars. After only six months of friendship, I watched him rush onto the county road and fall underneath the rear tire of a pick-up truck. I ran to him as he took his last breath. Again, death had taken a loved one.

Tramp

Tramp was my last dog and perhaps, my best. I got him about six months after losing Peanut Butter. My dad had decided that dogs were more trouble than they were worth after the fit I threw when Peanut Butter had been killed. Only after much talking to my grandparents, in getting them to influence my father, did Tramp come into my life.
Named after Tramp in the Disney film “Lady And The Tramp”, he and I grew up together. His tail never stopped wagging when I walked outside. His love for me knew no boundaries.
One day, a black racer surprised both of us as we were sitting at his doghouse. Neither of us saw it until it raised its body and crawled over my extended legs. Tramp strained at my grasp to attack it and protect me. Yet, I didn’t want to lose him like I had the others. I held his collar as he pulled and growled and raised on his hind legs attempting to pursue the serpent. Finally, it had crawled on. Tramp put his front legs over mine to protect me immediately afterwards as I sat petting him, both recognizing the love we each had for each other.
Tramp was my sounding board when I lost my mother at age 13. Only a couple of months later, he again played that role as I had just witnessed my best friend’s death as the bike he was riding crumpled underneath a speeding car. I don’t know what I would have done if Tramp hadn’t of been there.
Years passed and life changes. Sports, girlfriends, dating, college…Tramp was left at home and I was out and about. Still, the few moments we were able to spend together always found a wagging tail and love.
I came home from the military on leave one year, arriving before my father had gotten home from work. I went out to the doghouse and it was empty. I called for Tramp, but there was no wagging tail and barking coming my direction. I hoped he was simply off somewhere playing. I’ll never forget the sadness and guilt I felt when my father got home and told me that Tramp had passed on. I still can see him through the tears that the memories bring, wagging his tail, tongue hanging off to the side as he jumped up to greet me.
Demetrius - Demon Eyes, Bashful and in constant need of attention
Demetrius - Demon Eyes, Bashful and in constant need of attention
Eurydicina - Fat, Sassy and Loving.
Eurydicina - Fat, Sassy and Loving.
Faletame - All grown up. "What do you mean you're taking my picture? I just woke up, I'm Not Ready!"
Faletame - All grown up. "What do you mean you're taking my picture? I just woke up, I'm Not Ready!"
Okay! I'm ready now! Don't chop off my ear! Remember last time... you chopped off my ears! DON'T CHOP OFF MY EARS!
Okay! I'm ready now! Don't chop off my ear! Remember last time... you chopped off my ears! DON'T CHOP OFF MY EARS!

A Final Word

After Tramp, I found myself living in apartments. I was offered a cat and found it to be another great friend. Unlike most, I haven’t witnessed one that won’t give you love if you give it love.
Aviatar, Black Wolf, Antonius, Bernadette, Caladonius, Demetrius, and Eurydicina have all left me as I enjoyed their love from kitten to elder. Usually, I’ve had two at a time (especially since I have a wife that doesn’t mind cleaning the litterbox). I could talk for hours about their individual quirks and personalities. They all hold a place in my heart.
Now, as discussed in another hub, I have Faletame. I was trying to decide which kitten I wanted one night after losing Demetrius. My friend had pulled three from the litter to choose from. I said, “Who wants to come home with me?” Faletame raised his head and eyes at me and took a few steps in my direction while the other two played with each other. We’ve been best buddies ever since!
Not only does he act like a dog (*see previous hub on “Distractions”) but he has one habit that has never changed from the first night he became king of the house. He will crawl in my lap, climb up my chest, and cuddle his head under my neck, while he stretches his left leg and paw around the right side of my neck, holding on as a baby might. He’s much bigger now, and much heavier, but I don’t mind. It’s love we can share and memories to cherish.
Some might call me a “softie” when it comes to animals. Others can’t understand why I hold animals of all types above some of the people I’ve had to deal with over the years. It’s simply beyond them.
But, from as far back as I can recall, animals have always been a part of my life. Now, you won’t find me cuddling any of the venomous snakes or alligators I’ve either owned or dealt with over the years, but, they too, are all a part of God’s plan. Everything has it’s purpose. We should appreciate that fact and learn from them.
I’ve learned how to experience love, devotion, happiness and death from the pets. I’ve learned that you get what you give. They’ve taught me the value of loyalty. Pets ARE human, too!
And there’s Tramp, wagging his tail!

What To Do When An Asteroid Is On A Collision Course With The Earth (Humor)

Hypothetically Speaking

There have been several movies made about asteroids from space on a collision course to hit the earth, most recently, 2011's Melancholia. (Really a boring movie for the most part, unless you like seeing Kirsten Dunst lying unclad in the outdoors a couple of times. Okay, maybe not so boring!) What if tomorrow, you turned on your computers, took a quick look at the news on your homepage, and found that an asteroid was heading our direction? (Think you might get a little shaky?)

Of course, the first thing you'd do is to speed read everything you could on the topic. (Kind of like most do here before leaving comments.) Probably, you'd then turn on either Fox News or CNN, depending upon your political affiliations (as if they mattered any longer) and watch consistently for the next 8 to 10 hours.

Questions would arise:
  • 1) What are it's chances of missing the Earth?
  • 2) How big is it and what damage could its impact cause?
  • 3) What are our chances of survival (if any)?

By this time, you've wasted at least 12 hours. You've learned that the asteroid will destroy the Earth and spread it's remnants all over the solar system. There will be no survivors. (Not even that neighbor's barking dog you despise so much!) We are doomed and only have 48 hours to live your life as you know it.

Suggestions

1) Throw away all the bills lying on the kitchen table and dare collection agencies to find you in the afterlife. (If there are credit card collection agencies in Heaven we're all doomed to Purgatory)
2) Forget about calling in sick to work. (Like there would be anyone there to take the call in the first place.)
3) Make a trip to the convenience store and laugh hysterically when the clerk says, "If you don't play the Lotto, you don't win!"
4) Let your male mixed breed dog finally do what nature intended with the purebred poodle down the street. (A dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta do!)
5) Eat every drop of ice cream, cake, pie and sour cream you could find and hold a vigilance as you burned the Weight Watcher's calorie cards. (Who's going to tell on you? Richard Simmons lives here, too!)
6) Circle all the neighbors around the house of the owner of the one dog hated by all that barked every night, all night, and hold a huge campfire Kumbaya sing-a-long. (Don't forget to bring the hot dog buns!)
7) Drive your car at 80 mph in front of the Police Department knowing no one's there. (No city employees will work when they know that they won't be getting paid again!)
8) Call the I.R.S. and leave a message describing all the lies told and deductions claimed that you never legally qualified for. (Although these folks are so dedicated, they'd probably still be working.)
9) Make fun of everyone that voted early in the elections. (As we all know both candidates would be vying for a place on the commercial spaceship recently built.)

10) Throw away your skinny jeans that you're still a long way from fitting into. (Ladies, forget it! They're out of style now, anyway.)
11) Send emails to all spammers telling them that you'll agree to whatever they want. (Just to rub it in a little.)
12) Get back on the Internet and send out a mass email saying, "I STARTED THE ASTEROID RUMOR. JUST FOOLING!" (Talk about a panic then.)
13) Go to a prison and let out all the criminals except for murderers, child and woman abusers, and politicians. (We want them safe for the big bang, don't we?)
14) Tell your kids the truth that you really weren't planning on taking them to Disneyland next summer. (That should end any disappointment about not being able to go.)
15) Forget about doing the dishes, taking out the trash, emptying the kitty litter, or washing dirty underwear. (Who's gonna know?)
16) Pull out that bottle of champaign you were saving and toast your spouse to living the rest of your lives together in happiness. (Anyone can make it for 48 hours, especially if you've been drinking!)
17) Call your parents and admit to all the wrongdoing they imagined you doing but were never able to prove. (And brag and brag and brag!)
18) Try to find that plastic bag of memories from your younger days you hid somewhere the kids couldn't get to it. (Oh, like you never did. C'mon, your time is short, tell the truth!)
19) Look at the Hunger Games book trilogy you purchased and be happy you saw the first movie. (You know you weren't going to read them anyway. You just wanted to impress your neighbors in the double-wide next door!)
20) Make peace with God. (And pray he hasn't made a deal with credit card collection agencies!)

Final Thoughts

Let me state, "There is no asteroid on an immediate collision course to hit the Earth."
This is only a short list of things to accomplish in the last 48 hours of Earth's existence. I'm sure you can come up with many more, as I have only been thinking about this for the last hour or so while I typed it out.
Feel free to list your last acts in the comments below, and remember, life is short so make it count!

Scams And Political Hams

Scams And Political Hams

To scam, or not to scam. That is the question! TIs nobler in the eyes of mankind to suffer the slings and arrows of poverty, but, damn, scamming sure does pay good! Especially, in Washington, D.C.!

Basic Definition

“This is the Psychics Of The Dimension Of The Other Side Hotline. May I have your name please?”
“Guess.”
“Sir, we need your name please.”
“Not much of a psychic, are you!

According to Wikipedia, the definition of a scam, or confidence trick is “an attempt to defraud a person or group by gaining their confidence. A confidence artist is "an individual operating alone or in concert with others who exploits characteristics of human psyche such as dishonesty and honesty, vanity, compassion, credulity, irresponsibility, naivety and greed." Election 2012

According to the Democratic National Convention speeches, Romney is an incompetent candidate for President of the United States and cannot be trusted to do the right thing for the majority of Americans.
According to the Republican National Convention speeches, Obama has proven himself to be an incompetent President of the United States and cannot be trusted to do the right thing for the majority of Americans.
“What if both parties are right?
Scary thought, isn't it?”
Remember the 1973 movie, “Paper Moon” and starred Ryan and Tatum O’Neal as scam artists. This father and daughter preyed upon those thatbelieved strongly in the Bible by preying upon those same emotions tosell more Bibles as they journeyedacross the country.
“Let’s see... both Obama and Romney seem to be preying upon those thatbelieve strongly in America and using those same feelings of patriotism tosell themselves as the one to vote for as they travel across the country on the campaign trail."
"I’m beginning to see a pattern!”
"Could this be a political scam?"

Scams Are All Around

Scam artists are all around us. Why? Because most people are desperate and gullible. Honest and somewhat innocent folks want so badly to believe that others will be honest and provide them with a miracle. A miracle for what they've prayed for so desperately they fail to see the lies they're being told. All scam artists target this weakness, as well as the greed concept!
"And we all know about greed, don't we? By the way, what were the latest Powerball numbers?"
However, the scam artists are not the only ones at fault. Most victims understand there is another element to deal with. There's even a saying about it:
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!”
(Unless you watched President George W. Bush attempt to say it on Sept. 17, 2002,
“There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”
"That’s okay, George. Enjoy your retirement!"
Yet, believe it or not, Americans are not totally naive. We still know that scams are all around. Some of the most common scams, internet scams and broadcast scams of today are:
  1. enlargement of certain body parts (unmentionable on Hubpages, I'm being good this hub)
  2. online business opportunity groups (make hundreds per day working at home)
  3. exercise guru and fad diet offerings (lose weight easily without exercise, maybe in another world)
  4. auto repair and warranty specialists (never pay for repairs again... walk while your car sits there broken down)
  5. drug and prescription advertising for a multitude of ailments (again... many unmentionable on Hubpages, see I told you I'm being good, until four hours pass and then I'm seeing a doctor)
  6. political advertising that mud slings opponents (like we're going to believe either one of them after seeing these ads, like we're supposed to mimic Madeline Kahn In "Blazing Saddles"..."It's true..It's true")
All of these continue to be exceptionally profitable “short term” ventures. The old adage is true, “There’s a sucker born every minute!” (And I don’t think we mean the newborns breast feeding.)
This is my mug shot from the front. I think my profile is much more attractive, in fact, if you'd like to invest a little, I'm sure we can persuade them to provide it!

Bernie Madoff, Scammer Supreme

When we think of con men, one immediately comes to mind, Bernard Madoff. Now, “Uncle Bernie” was a stockbroker, investment advisor, and financer. Trouble was, for almost two decades, his clients money went into accounts in his name, usually outside of the United States. (He knew better than to trust our banking system!)
His biggest con was called the Ponzi scheme. It netted him over $18 billion dollars by court records. Of course, Bernie’s in jail now serving a 150 year sentence. However, he’s stated that he’s being treated with all the respect of a mafia don. (Nice to know he’s not suffering.)
One would think, "White building equals good guys in white hats!" That's what one would think. They'd be wrong, but that's what they would think!

At Least These Scammers Are On The Map!

Is Washington D.C. Scamming Us?

Yet, as badly as Bernard Madoff is portrayed, did he do anything that politicians are not?
Let's see:
  1. Bernie took investors money and put it into accounts they had no control over. Politicians take our (tax) money and put it into accounts of which we have no control. (Where it's generally already spent.)
  2. Bernie sold people on ideas of grandeur in return for their cash contributions. Politicians simply use the I.R.S. and visions of representation in return for our cash. (At least with Bernie's you had a choice to invest or not.)
  3. Bernie lived extremely well for many years off of his clients, many who suffered financial hardship after contributing. Politicians live exceptionally well with their escalated salaries, retirement benefits, and expense accounts while many of those they supposedly represent suffer financial hardships after contributing.(And we all know the politicians feel sorry for those suffering... yeah, right!")
  4. Bernie utilized America's legal system to gain many profits and avoid prosecution for many years. Politicians changed the law to allow lobbyist contributions to avoid prosecution forever. (At one time, the taking of money for vote influence was called graft. It was highly illegal. Now, the name has been changed to lobbying. With the name change came a certain amount of legality. Kind of like when strip joints became gentlemen's clubs)
"Hey Ma! Notice any similarities?"

A Final Thought

Scams surround us. It is up to each and every person to research what is being presented and make decisions as to what route they need to choose. Please, don't choose and then cry, "Foul!" You've only yourself to blame.
What's ironic about the American public is that they recognize politicians are scam artists. If you ask them at any time (except during an election year), you'll hear most citizens talk about how "they're all a bunch of crooks."
Only in an election fervor does one candidate become honest and the other candidate become the crook. And like a true American, when the elected later proves he scammed you, in self defense you can always say, "But he had good intentions."
(You have to love the way we think!)
So, when you enter the voting booth this year, consider what you’re voting for.
Is it:
1) still the American Dream, 2) the lesser of two evils, or 3) because one pulled a better scam than the other?
Keep thinking about it even after you leave the voting area.
It’ll give you something to do while waiting in line at the unemployment office.

Okay, One Quick Poll Before You Comment

Who's the greater scammer?

  •  Bernie Madoff
  •  Elected Officials
